By the Voices for National Service Team
AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are the people power that communities count on. They support students, respond to disasters, fight food insecurity, assist veterans and older adults, and help local organizations meet urgent needs in every state. At the same time, national service helps participants build skills, gain experience, and prepare for the workforce.
Congress is now making decisions about fiscal year 2027 funding – and lawmakers need to hear directly from their constituents and the communities that rely on AmeriCorps.
In recent years, Congress has demonstrated strong bipartisan support for national service, rejecting proposals to eliminate AmeriCorps and maintaining funding because of voices like yours. As the FY27 budget process moves forward, it is critical that Congress once again hears clear, consistent support for continued investment.
Voices for National Service is urging Congress to support at least $1.291 billion for AmeriCorps in FY27, a modest increase that reflects growing demand, restores capacity in communities, and expands opportunities to serve.
Without continued investment, communities could lose critical services, nonprofit organizations may face reduced capacity, and fewer Americans will have the opportunity to serve. The Alliance has called for support of AmeriCorps previously, and things have only become more critical since then.
Join the Alliance in emailing your members of Congress to urge them to support funding for AmeriCorps in fiscal year 2027. Your voice made a difference before — and it matters again now.
