The Alliance for Sustainability was created in 1983 by visionaries from around the world with a mission to co-create sustainability on a personal, organizational and planetary level. We envision a healthy, just, equitable, thriving, kind and peaceful world that works for everyone, fulfills their fundamental needs and realizes our greatest dreams of sustainability.
We developed one of the first and most comprehensive definitions of sustainability: ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just and humane, embodying our highest values in terms of how we treat people, animals and the planet. We’re building on our pioneering successes to make sustainability mainstream using an open-hearted center of deep listening, empathy and collaboration.
We welcome you on our journey to co-create a diverse, inclusive alliance of people and organizations working together to bring fundamental systems change through personal and institutional transformation and impactful public policies.
Since the murder of George Floyd in 2020, we’ve focused all of our efforts to inform and inspire individual and joint actions through our Campaign for Sustainability, Health, Equity and Kindness (S.H.E. Kindness Campaign). We’ll engage our members, utilize media and work with our partners to achieve key tipping points to transform all institutions and the planet. We hope you’ll become a Friend of the Alliance.
This innovative, scalable and cost-effective youth leadership development, education, action and creativity program seeks to inform, inspire and engage diverse middle and high school students nationwide.
We’re working with businesses to share a powerful S.H.E. Kindness Business presentation, offer training and consulting services, develop and implement a sustainability vision, assessment and action plan.
We are collaborating with key national and state partners to support, pass and implement impactful public policies. We participate advocacy days and promote weekly Take Actions.
We are providing inspiring, informative in-person and virtual presentations to groups. Our e-newsletter highlights important News to Know, and our Substack features in-depth articles.
