Campaign for Sustainability, Health,
Equity and Kindness
(S.H.E. Kindness)

Welcome to our Campaign for Sustainability, Health, Equity and Kindness (S.H.E. Kindness)!

This Campaign is the focus of the Alliance as we seek to bring about fundamental systems change through personal and organizational transformation and impactful public policies. We are supporting and amplifying the work of aligned groups and individuals to build a powerful alliance of more than one million people and organizations.

We co-created the Campaign in 2020 in response to the murder of George Floyd and so many others, the climate crisis, Covid pandemic and threats to democracy. We felt the need to scale our work and expand collaboration to address the multi-fold challenges we are facing and to co-create a thriving, just and healthy world.

We are building on our 40 years of success with business,
young people and public policy to develop
our three S.H.E. Kindness Programs

1. Akepa Youth & School Program

This innovative, scalable and cost-effective youth leadership development, education, action and creativity Program is informing, inspiring and engaging diverse middle and high school students in schools across the country, half of which are in under-served communities.

It empowers students to overcome hopelessness and eco-anxiety through a positive Akepa presentation (click Slideshow button), eBook and website encouraging them to take action, affecting their lifestyles, website encouraging them to take action, affecting their lifestyles, homes, school operations, school district and city policy.

It expands the impact through the S.H.E. Kindness Creativity Prize, Students for Sustainability, School Sustainability Teams, mentorships and service learning. Finally, it engages college students as leaders working with the schools. More

2. Business Program

We are working with a wide range of businesses to share a powerful S.H.E. Kindness Business presentation (click Slideshow button), offer training and consulting services, develop and implement a sustainability vision, assessment and action plan.

We are also engaging employees in taking action at work, home and within their community, as well as encouraging their participation in volunteer programs, mentorships, service learning and policy advocacy.

The Program was launched with a 2021 Earth Month presentation for several hundred Target employees nationwide. More

3. Policy Program

We are collaborating with key national and state partners to support, successfully pass and implement impactful public policies. The program is also developing and implementing strategic campaigns to shift the policies of public and private entities. Finally, we are participating in state and national advocacy days and promoting weekly Take Actions on a wide variety of policy issues related to sustainability, health, equity and kindness. More

We’ve created a simple S.H.E. Kindness Pledge that we hope you’ll sign and share with others.
We also developed the more comprehensive Declaration of Co-Creation and Interdependence, our bold commitment and invitation to others to join with us in making a difference. We hope you and your organization will consider signing it.

We’re 40 Years Old!

Visionary leaders from around the world founded the Alliance 40 years ago with a mission to co-create sustainability on a personal, organizational and planetary level.

Since our founding, we have successfully developed and implemented a range of impactful programs and policies, including cutting-edge publications, thousands of inspiring sustainability trainings and presentations, landmark public policy, the effective Dirty Dozen Campaign, the CERES Principles for corporate responsibility and work with 100 NGOs to get all 179 countries at the UN Earth Summit in Rio to adopt sustainable agriculture as a goal.

Stay Up-to-Date

Each of these is supplemented by our inspiring and impactful resources, including our free, weekly e-Newsletter, active social media, website, Take Actions, publications, slide presentations, speaking and trainings. We are seeking to educate and engage people to Take Action on everything from lifestyle and consumption to strategic campaigns and policy changes that bring key tipping points for sustainability, health, equity and kindness.
