on the Murder of Tyre Nichols and the Need for Justice
and Immediate Passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act

As a nonprofit that has been committed to sustainability, health, equity and kindness for nearly 40 years, the Board and staff of the Alliance for Sustainability are horrified, heart-broken and angered over the murder of Tyre Nichols at the hands of Memphis police officers. We strongly condemn the continued violence perpetrated against Black people and other people of color by police who are supposed to serve and protect.
We are committed to addressing this challenge, bringing about fundamental change and being an ally to Black people and all other people of color in this effort. We are asking our members and others to speak out and join together in assuring a safe, just country for everyone.
Consequently, we are expanding our previous efforts and calling for the immediate passage and enactment of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which the House passed in March 2021. This must be enacted into law NOW. This is an urgent and necessary first step, but we acknowledge it is not sufficient and much more needs to be done to bring about fundamental systems change and co-create a world of justice, equity, sustainability, health and kindness for all.
