Take Action for Earth Day: Five Wonderful Ways to Honor Our Environment and Co-Create a Healthy, Thriving Future

By Alliance President Terry Gips and Communications Coordinator Amy Durr

Yes, Spring is here and it’s time to again celebrate our home Mother Earth, and Take Action to protect her from the wide range of assaults she is having to endure from us humans.

There are so many worthy events and activities that we want to highlight five of our favorites. We hope you’ll join us in taking action in one or more.

Earth Day Rally and Protest

In Minnesota, we have morning and afternoon peaceful rallies and protests at the State Capitol Rotunda in St. Paul on Earth Day this Wednesday, April 22:

10 – 11 am Earth Day Rally at the MN State Capitol Rotunda –
Join us for a morning rally celebrating the movement to protect Minnesota’s water, wilderness, and wild places. We’ll hear from advocates and community leaders who are working on the frontlines of some of the most important environmental fights in the state — and we’ll make some noise together. This is a moment to connect, to uplift the voices doing this work every day, and to remind our elected officials that Minnesotans are paying attention.

1:30 – 3pm Mother Earth or Big Tech? A People’s Hearing on Data Centers, Capitol Rotunda – Send a message to lawmakers and hear testimony from impacted residents from across the state and policy experts calling on lawmakers to take immediate action before the legislative session concludes May 17. Lawmakers need to act now on behalf of people, not Big Tech billionaires behind these projects. We’ll be wearing RED! Feel free to bring Signs/Banners (without sticks) and don’t forget to leave time for parking & Capitol Security screening!

Stop Plastic Pollution and Call for a Global Plastic Treaty – Studies reveal if current practices continue unabated there will be an increase in hormonal illnesses, cancers and cardiovascular system damage related to plastic production and consumption. We possess the power to stop this scourge. Join us in signing this Earthday.org petition to end plastic pollution, protect human health and lead to a waste-free world. We cannot allow our governments to waste this pivotal opportunity.

Call for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)! — Minnesota stands on the cutting edge of a major development for climate and clean water: SAF. Major airline companies are working to cut their climate emissions by moving away from petroleum-based fuels and toward fuels grown on farmland and using clean energy. SAF could be a tremendous win for clean water if done right, but a huge negative if done wrong. Help make sure that it focuses on truly sustainable SAF, not greenwashing. Support Environmental Groups, Like the Alliance for Sustainability

As we face unprecedented attacks on our environment, people and all life, nonprofits are being called upon to heroically respond amidst cutbacks in government spending and grants, along with many donors reducing donations due to their economic plight.

Earth Day is a great time to send a message to these groups in the trenches fighting on our behalf. Please consider making donations to both your local and national environmental groups.

The Alliance for Sustainability would welcome your support for our Campaign for Sustainability, Health, Equity and Kindness (S.H.E. Kindness).

You can make a tax-deductible donation in any amount on our platform that accepts everything from credit cards to gold and crypto. Your gift will both inspire us and provide the needed resources to co-create a healthy, thriving planet.
