It’s sad that the words ICE and Border Patrol no longer need an explanation. We know all too much about their activities in our communities violating people’s basic rights and the rule of law.
They’ve been running rampantly out of control and endangering our communities – even shooting and killing people like Alex Pretti and Renee Good in the streets while continuing to target anyone they think might be immigrants, as the ACLU points out.
They have illegally broken into people’s homes and even yanked pregnant American citizens from their cars and thrown them to the ground. Unacceptable. Ironically, we as taxpayers will pay for their injuries and lawsuits. Trump never got Mexico to pay for the wall, but we’ll pay for their deserved compensation from ICE’s violence.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has been fired but the challenges persist, just more secretive and less obvious to the media. And at least two bounty hunters have been arrested for illegal activities. Really, we have bounty hunters in the US?!
The ACLU points out that “For months now, communities in Minneapolis, Chicago, Charlotte, Los Angeles and beyond have lived in fear as federal agents have arrested US citizens, dragged children from their beds in the middle of the night, smashed car windows and targeted protestors.” Since when can you be arrested or executed for the peaceful exercise of free speech?
We can’t wait around while ICE harms more people. Take a minute to join the Alliance for Sustainability in sending this ACLU message to Congress demanding an end to these reckless immigration raids and oppose any bill that would add to ICE and Border Patrol’s already massive budget without reining in their lawless and abusive actions.
