We invite you to bring a team of 3 or more staff for our 1pm Staff Workshop and a team of 3 or more commission or community volunteers and/or elected leaders for our 6pm community workshop so your team can participate in the concurrent small group conversations.   Everyone is welcome to attend either session.

1:00pm – Welcome from MN Compass & how to access data  sets on equity & health

1:30pm  Resource groups will share updates on their comp plan resources for cities

2:30 pm – Facilitated Small Group Conversations with your peers from other cities to share your approaches and draft comprehensive plan goals and strategies for

  • Highlights for Cities from the MN Climate Action Plan – Climate Solutions & Economic Opportunities – 1pm Will Seuffert, Executive Director, EQB. 6pm Ellen Andersen, U of MN Energy Transition Lab
  • Energy Planning – Tapping your communities’ energy resources to save residents & businesses money while meeting CO2 reduction goals. Brian Ross, GPI
  • Transportation & Land use strategies – for vital low-carbon communities. Jim Erkel, MCEA
  • Adaptation Planning – preparing your city’s infrastructure & residents to be ready for extreme weather – Laura Millberg, MPCA, with examples from Burnsville and St. Louis Park, using the MN GreenStep Cities Resilience Guide (best practice #29)
  • Planning for Health, Equity & Economic Vitality – sharing strategies to improve the health and economic status of all residents including active living, healthy food access and developing our future workforce to ensure our regional economic competitiveness.  MN Compass & Nadja Bernache, Healthy Comp Plan Coordinator, Blue Cross staff with local examples.

7:30 pm – Facilitated Small Group Conversations with your peers from other cities to share your approaches and draft comprehensive plan goals and strategies for

  • Energy Planning – tap your communities’ energy resources to meet climate goals
  • Adaptation Planning – preparing your city’s infrastructure for extreme weather
  • Transportation & Land use strategies – for vital low-carbon communities.
  • Planning for Health, Equity & Economic Vitality – for all residents

We will launch our Resilient Cities Clusters on October 24, with time for you to meet with peers from other cities in your county to plan a follow up gathering in 2017 for interested staff and/or volunteers in your county to share draft resilience goals and strategies and implementation resources with one another for their comprehensive plan updates. Our overall goal with this campaign is to engage 40 metro communities to help achieve our state climate goals.

The workshop is offered free through support from the McKnight, Bush and Wilder Foundations, MN EQB and through support from local businesses. We are asking participants to RSVP on line atwww.allianceforsustainability.com/sustainablecommunities
